Frequently Asked Questions About MSTS

10. ROUTE EDITOR QUESTIONS

CAN YOU DESIGN YOUR OWN ROUTES OR TRAINS?

Yes. A route designer is included in MSTS which can be used to create
original railroads. A 3D modeling program is required to create your
own locomotives, cars, or other original objects.

CAN YOU RECREATE REAL-WORLD RAILROADS USING THE MSTS EDITOR?

Yes. Creating real-world routes is not so much a question of the
program as it is of the human doing the designing. If he or she has
the skill and resources necessary to produce an accurate reproduction
of a real route, then it can be done--probably to nearly the same
degree of detail as in the routes included in the game, if not more
so.

CAN YOU IMPORT REAL-WORLD TERRAIN INTO THE EDITOR?

Yes. You can import some files (DEM) which contain elevation data
into the editor for use in creating routes. Many such terrain files
are available for free over the Internet. This is only a starting
point, though as it only includes ground elevations.

I CANNOT GET THE EDITORS TO RUN. WHY?

One reason is that the editors require you to be running with a
screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher. If you're in 800x600 or
lower none of the editors will work. You'll need to change your
display settings in the Windows Control Panel.
